I have been a massage therapist for 17 years now, which I absolutely love, but I always felt like something was missing with it. I would work on repeat clients for 5-6 years, with some of them I felt like what am I missing, why are they not improving, or why is this work not lasting. I decided in 2021 to take my first John Barnes Myofascial Release 1 seminar. This seminar changes my whole perspective on massage therapy, my practice, my own healing journey, and I just knew this was what I will leave massage therapy for someday for Myofascial Release Therapy.
I soon realized after that seminar that I personally needed to get myself treated and start on my own personal healing journey, before I could treat anyone else. Which before MFR, I treated myself with massages two times a month, yoga, and chiropractic work, nothing seemed to help ease my pain. I soon found a myofascial therapist in my area and received treatment for 6-7 months once a week. I went in having lower back and pelvic/female issues/scar adhesion (2 C-sections). After 2 treatments my lower back/pelvic pain had subsided tremendously and lasted more than 2 days, but soon realized my neck/chest/head were in bad shape. MFR treats the entire body and it makes you aware of your mind, body, and spirits. My pelvis/lower back fascia restriction I found out a few months later were contributing to my neck/shoulder fascia restrictions and Vic versa. I am now on a pain management program of monthly myofascial release and massage therapy.
During the time I was getting treated myself, I also began introducing MFR to my massage clients and practicing these new techniques and with time things started to change. Clients were telling me they were getting more relief with it than massage therapy. In this time I have taken two more seminars Unwinding and Cervical Thoracic, with the intensions of continuing my education with MFR and a goal of becoming expert level someday. I share my journey with you because, I would not be able to offer or give MFR if it wasn't for taking the first seminar, my MFR therapist, and John Barnes.
